Ebony figure of a poacher believed to be early to mid 19th century
This piece was originally a gift to a Tribal King of Nigeria, gifted by the villagers of a small village known as Ono o kiti
Subsequently is was gifted to our vendor by a friend who was a cabinet maker who was contacted to do some commissioned work for the general. Whilst at the generals ranch in Nigeria the ranch came under attack and the general told his workers to leave and to take what they could carry in like of pay so my friend took this incredible piece.
The item is depicting a poacher, on his head is an elephant which depicts wisdom, he wears a leather armour, on his left foot is a boot on which there is a bee, the bee symbolises royalty.
