A fascinating and specialised collection (in two albums) of mainly used stamps from the Orange Free State/Orange River Colony/Cape of Good Hope. The collection spans material from c. 1868 through to c. 1909, focusing on the lower values, although there are some higher values too. The collection includes varieties such as different ‘States’, ‘Settings’, and ‘Types’, as well as notes material such as Level and Missing Stops, Surcharges, Inverted Surcharges, and the like. There are pairs, blocks, multiples, and even a few pieces of postal history, such as used and unused postcards, some with a cachet. Not only does the collection contain a wealth of philatelic material amounting to some value, but it also includes informative handwritten notes and drawings to explain the included material. It’s unusual to find such a well-put-together collection.
