Lot 238:
Duke of Wellington Interest
A 17th century oak coffin bench which was used for the lying in state of The Duke of Wellington.
The vendors’ uncle’s father, Sir Edward Mann was given the bench by Queen Victoria when also conferring on him a baronetcy for the work he had done to help the London Poor in Stepney, one of the most deprived areas of the city at the time (see letter in the images from our vendor)
